Rep. Ackert- “DMV Commissioner Ayala Resigning Will Not Solve the Ongoing Problems”

CoventryState Rep. Tim Ackert (R-8) on Wednesday stressed that we need to know more about how the governor plans to resolve the well-publicized problems that have plagued the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) now that its commissioner has resigned.

“DMV Commissioner Ayala resigning will not solve the ongoing problems we are facing overnight,” said State Representative Tim Ackert. “We need the current administration to take immediate steps to pick a qualified candidate to assume the role as commissioner and put forth an action plan that will end the problems Connecticut residents are facing.”

Over the course of the past year the DMV has been making headlines regarding ongoing complications due to a failed rollout of software updates, which took place in August. For instance, a computer glitch that was directly related to the overhaul erroneously revoked valid registrations from hundreds of registered vehicles. Additionally, wait times have been escalating at DMV branches across the state with some reported at over three hours.

Ackert late Wednesday joined calls from House Republican Themis Klarides for a Transportation Committee hearing on what’s transpired at the DMV and plans for the near future.
