COLUMBIA – State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) was honored to be the featured speaker at the Horace W. Porter School’s annual Veterans Day Celebration on November 4.

Before he spoke, he presented a Proclamation from Governor Dannel Malloy with State Senator Cathy Osten (D-19), honoring the school’s celebration and recognition of veterans. Over fifty area veterans attended and were presented with bouquets of carnations.

Rep. Ackert explained the various jobs of those who serve in the military, including his own as an electrician while deployed in Egypt. He showed the students some of the tools he used on duty, which he had on hand as his military job grew into his career. In closing, he thanked those who attended, and the administration for putting on the event. He was especially grateful for the participation of the students.

“Every year, this is my favorite Veterans Day Event that I attend,” Rep. Ackert said. “I am always so impressed by how much you prepare for this event, and how obviously excited you are to have all of us here in your school. It shows an understanding of what it is that veterans have sacrificed, and for me, that understanding and appreciation is truly humbling.”
