TOLLAND – State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) had a lively discussion about taxes on seniors and hospitals at the Tolland Senior Center as he delivered a legislative update October 26.

Over pizza and salad prepared by the center’s café, the Lunchbox, Rep. Ackert answered questions about the recent budget discussions and cuts to hospitals, and ways that the tax burden on the state’s elderly could be relieved. He described proposals from the prior session that didn’t pass, such as a flat property tax once you have owned your home for a certain number of years.

“Restoring services without increasing taxes, and providing relief where we can, will be no easy task,” Rep. Ackert said. “It is my hope that in the coming months and during the next legislative session, we will be able to have a bipartisan dialogue and figure out ways that we can accomplish this.”

Rep. Ackert will host more events like this one in the months before the next legislative session. Visit his website, cthousegop.com, for announcements on when they will occur.
