TOLLAND – State Representatives Tim Ackert (R-Coventry) and Sam Belsito (R-Tolland) celebrated the 90th birthdays of four World War II veterans August 27 at the Tolland Senior Center.

Those honored were Francis Duntz, who served on the USS Pompon, Edward Fuller, who served on the USS Locust, Walter Limberger, who served on the B-17 “Out House Mouse,” and Robert Noonan, who served on the USS YMS 176.

Pat Tracy, a Tolland resident and Air Force veteran, organized the event. Festivities included a Thanksgiving-style dinner, custom-made hats representing the branches and specialties of each veteran, proclamation presentations by Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman and citation presentations by Reps. Ackert and Belsito.

“We are this country because of the Greatest Generation, because of your generation,” said Rep. Ackert. “We are where we are because of your efforts in defense of this country and the world, and we could never thank you enough for that.”

“It is certainly our honor to be here and wish you all a happy birthday, and many more,” Rep. Belsito said. “I too thank you for your service and hope you know how much your sacrifices mean to everyone in this room.”

Walter Limberger, who flew over forty combat missions, was unable to attend. His daughter, Rebecca Ellert, accepted his awards on his behalf.
