HARTFORD- State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) joined alongside fellow lawmakers, the Connecticut Commissioner of the Department of Veterans Affairs, and Vietnam Veterans to celebrate “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.” The annual event is designed to commemorate and honor the return home of the members of the armed forces who served in Vietnam.

“As an Air Force veteran who began his service right after the Vietnam era had ended, I want to thank those that have paved the way to provide today’s veterans and those from years past with the recognition they so willingly deserve,” Rep. Ackert said. “I am proud to live in and represent a district that stands behind our service men and women and understands the sacrifices they have made and continue to make in order to keep this country safe.”

Vietnam Veterans Day commemorates the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans and their families and is part of a national effort to recognize the men and women who were denied a proper welcome upon returning home more than 40 years ago.

In 2010, the state legislature proclaimed March 30 of every year as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day “to commemorate and honor the return home of the members of the armed forces who served in Vietnam.”
