Why I Voted NO On The State Budget

Why I Voted NO On The State Budget
This article was archived from the previous WordPress site. Formatting and media should be close, but may not match the original post perfectly.

The House of Representatives has convened on Friday, May 13, for a special session to vote on the state budget for FY17, as well as a bill that implements the budget. Both of these documents were drafted and negotiated by the majority party and the governor.

I opposed the budget measure because it did nothing to stop the ongoing fiscal crisis that Connecticut faces. It is merely a Band-Aid and temporary fix.

While the Democrats claim is that this budget implements structural changes, it will do nothing to change what has disturbingly become the ‘new normal’ of implementing quarterly deficit fixes due to the failed fiscal policies that cause the state budget to continually fall out of balance.

The budget includes cuts that will force our towns to make drastic changes to education and town services.

I urge you read more about the budget, along with the cuts that will be applied to municipalities, education, and hospitals:

Connecticut families are struggling with high electric costs, and they deserve leadership that delivers results and tells the truth. During her reconfirmation hearing, I asked Chair Gillett directly about the deleted text messages tied to an ongoing legal matter. I didn’t get a […]
