    Thank you to everyone who reached out to me regarding yesterday’s Finance Committee hearing on the controversial proposal by the majority party to increase the income tax and expand the sales tax. I voted against this plan which, until our session yesterday, hadn’t received an appropriate public hearing.

    We received hundreds of submissions of written testimony, and needed three rooms to accommodate everyone who signed up to speak.

    Like me, nearly everyone who spoke yesterday is concerned about imposing more taxes at a time when our state’s economic recovery remains fragile. Tax hikes would hurt the middle class as well as employers that support them.

    Here are a  few examples of what people had to say:

    Budget negotiations are underway, and with my Republican colleagues I intend to promote ideas included in the proposal we released last month. I look forward to updating you about these talks that should involve the governor and legislative Democrats and Republicans.
