Small Cities Grant Benefits North Haven

State Representative Dave Yaccarino (R-87) applauded news that North Haven will receive funding through the Small Cities grant program for ADA improvements to Town Hall.
These enhancements include an elevator and handicapped bathroom which for too long have made the second floor of town hall inaccessible to North Haven’s many handicapped residents. This has always posed a significant problem since the First Selectman’s office is located on the second floor, making it nearly impossible for handicapped residents to visit that office or attend meetings.
“I’m pleased the state has awarded this money for enhancements to our municipal building, including an elevator to assist residents’ access to the second floor,” Rep. Yaccarino said. “These improvements will allow those with mobility issues easier access to our local government and that’s a good thing for everyone. Senator Fasano and I worked hard on behalf of North Haven to secure this grant money because we believe the more people that get involved in government the better our town will be.”
The State of Connecticut awarded grants totaling $12,342,000 to 28 municipalities, including $750,000 for North Haven.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program provides grants to eligible municipalities for economic development, affordable housing, community facilities and other revitalization projects. The state’s Department of Economic and Community Development administers the program.
