Rep. Ziobron Addresses Animal Cruelty Incident In-District

State Representative Melissa Ziobron addresses an animal cruelty incident in East Hampton on Friday, February 2. Following an extensive investigation, inspectors from the Department of Agriculture (DOA) seized 32 horses, more than 80 chickens, 2 dogs and a number of rabbits from a farm in East Hampton.
Complaints of a malnourished horse were brought to the attention of DOA officials back in September of 2015. Even with proper intervention and support, it became evident to the DOA that the owners could not care for their animals properly and consequently the animals were seized.
The animals will be taken to “Second Chance” a Large Animal Rehabilitation Facility located at York Correctional Facility in Niantic.
“Animal abuse is just reprehensible and cannot be tolerated,” said Rep. Ziobron. “I support the efforts of the Department of Agriculture to remove the animals and urge our community to consider sending in a contribution to help with the care and maintenance of these abused animals. The fiscal realities of Connecticut are well-known and our taxpayer resources are being stretched in every direction. We can all help in making sure that these animals have the proper care they deserve, by donating to this special fund.”
Donations to help offset costs to care for neglected or cruelly treated animals can be made by sending a check to: THE ANIMAL ABUSE COST RECOVERY ACCOUNT, c/o Connecticut Department of Agriculture, 165 Capitol Avenue, Room G-8A, Hartford, Connecticut 06106.
