Rep. Yaccarino got a firsthand look at industry leader, and North Haven-based, Mossberg firearms this week during a tour of their facility. The visit was part of Rep. Yaccarino’s continued effort to reach out to local companies to get a real-world look at business conditions in the state.

Mossberg, headquartered in North Haven and with another location in Texas, manufacturers shotguns and rifles for sportsmen, law enforcement and the military. They employ nearly 160 people in Connecticut, run three shifts to keep up with production, and are the largest shotgun manufacturer in the world.

Despite their continued success, company officials said the state’s high utility costs and the difficulty in finding qualified employees are detriments to continued growth of the business. Similar sentiments have been echoed by nearly a dozen other small businesses in North Haven that Rep. Yaccarino has met with in the past few weeks.

After the meeting and tour, Rep. Yaccarino said he would take their concerns to the General Assembly’s leadership during the upcoming special session and he would continue to fight for practical solutions on a state level to make it easier for established businesses to thrive and grow and for new businesses to open and succeed.
