Rep. Yaccarino Supports Legislation That Seeks To Employ Veterans

On Monday April 28th 2014 State Rep. Dave Yaccarino, ranking member of the Veteran’s Committee, along with the House of Representatives approved a bill aimed at assisting veterans with removing barriers for employment. “Passing this bill is the first step to help our service men and women get back to work in the fields they were trained in while serving in the military,” said Yaccarino.
The bill, H.B. 5299, provides veterans with a greater opportunity to find employment by requiring that state licensing authorities accept military training and experience, as an alternative to supplemental training.
“I support this bill completely and urge that legislators on both sides of the aisle do so as well,” Yaccarino said. “Unfortunately, people who serve our country return from service – and remain unemployed – this phenomenon is troubling because these individuals are skilled in various trades. There is no reason these men and women should be unemployed, especially after everything they have done.”
“This bill will serve as an opportunity for skilled veterans to continue working in their designated area of expertise and will allow for any educational experience from the military will transfer over as college credits. HB 5299 is essential for veterans returning from service in that it will eliminate unnecessary barriers. There is no reason that men and women who have given years of honorable service to our country should have to struggle finding employment. ” Yaccarino said.
