North Haven – State Rep. Dave Yaccarino applauded the announcement C. Cowles & Co., a metal stamping company that manufactures parts for U.S. and Japanese automobiles, moving into the old Marlin Firearms plant on Kenna Drive in North Haven later this year. C. Cowles worked with the University of New Haven and state agency CONNSTEP to add 59 new jobs to its current workforce of 116 employees and has already initiate the training and hiring process of new workers with $250,000 job training grant from the Department of Economic and Community Development.

In addition to the job training grant, the Department of Economic and Community Development is supporting the move of C. Cowles from Massachusetts to Connecticut with a loan of $1.77 million, which C. Cowles is using to finance the move itself, acquire the North Haven building, conduct environmental remediation and make mechanical upgrades and retrofits.

“This grant is much needed and will serve to stimulate job growth here in North Haven,” said Yaccarino. “Connecticut been a difficult state for the manufacturing industry, in order to compete globally we need sustainable manufacturing and it’s great that we have some of that going on here in North Haven.”

    C. Cowles may receive loan forgiveness of up to $885,125 under the conditions that the company meets or exceeds its job creation and retention commitments.

“I have always been an advocate for high paying, clean manufacturing jobs and would like to thank all those that assisted with the expansion of C. Cowles. Any investment that leads to the development of jobs – is well worth it,” said Yaccarino.
