Rep. Yaccarino Recognized by Connecticut League of Conservation Voters

The people who keep a watchful eye on statewide environmental issues this year gave State Rep. State Representative Dave Yaccarino (R-87) a perfect score for votes supporting green initiatives in Connecticut.
Yaccarino, who represents the 87th General Assembly District, scored a perfect 100 percent in the annual environmental scorecard issued this week by the bipartisan Connecticut League of Conservation Voters.
Among the environment-related bills supported by Yaccarino were several to protected local watersheds, including An Act Concerning the Sale or Abandonment of Water Supply Sources and Associated Land (HB 5334) which requires land currently designated as a water source to retain any connected protective easement or other land protections after a sale.
He also supported An Act Concerning Phosphorous Reduction in State Waters (SB440) which requires the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) commissioner to develop a state-wide strategy to reduce phosphorus in inland non-tidal waters to comply with U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards.
“Preserving the environment is important for the future prosperity of our state and the health of Connecticut’s citizens, especially our children,” Rep. Yaccarino said. “Balancing the needs of the people and the environment is difficult but essential in order to promote a sustainable future for everyone in the state.”
The scorecard grades lawmakers on their votes on 20 different bills related to the environment. Other bills scored include those on safe disposal of pharmaceuticals, coastal zone management and open space planning among others.
“I am proud to be recognized by the bipartisan League of Conservation Voters and will continue to work hard to protect the environment while also promoting business friendly practices to creating growth and sustainable jobs for our state.”
