A bill, which would establish the Connecticut women veterans’ program passed in the state House of Representatives yesterday, May 13. The bill aims to develop a program within the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to provide information and services to women veterans.
Rep. Dave Yaccarino (R-North Haven), the bill’s co-sponsor and Ranking Member of the legislative Veterans’ Affairs Committee, praised passage of S.B. 904, which would establish the Connecticut women veterans’ program, specifically designed to address the needs of women veterans and their transition to civilian life. The program will also provide both federal and state benefits.
“With 16,545 women veterans in Connecticut, this bill will create a great outreach to help us better understand and fulfill the different needs of women veterans,” Yaccarino said.
The state Senate in early-April passed the bill unanimously. It now heads to the governor’s desk to be signed into law.
