State Representative Dave Yaccarino (R-87) today has been named Ranking Member of the legislature’s Select Committee on Veterans’Affairs by House Republican Leader Larry Cafero.  The Veterans’ Committee is responsible for reporting on any bill it deems necessary concerning military and veterans’ affairs.

Rep. Yaccarino, who served in the U.S. Naval Reserve, was first appointed to fill a vacancy on the committee in early 2012.  For the 2013-2015 legislative session Rep. Yaccarino will be the highest appointed position of the Republican party on the committee.

“I am honored Rep. Cafero appointed me as Ranking Member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee for the 2013-2015 session,” Rep. Yaccarino said. “Having served on this important committee since early last year and acting as a voice for all of Connecticut’s veterans is an important position and one I am proud to hold.  Knowing our committee can craft meaningful legislation to positively affect the brave men and women who serve in our armed forces is an honor.”

He also announced his legislative committee assignments for the upcoming two years.  Rep. Yaccarino will also serve on the legislature’s Insurance and Real Estate Committee and Public Safety and Security Committee.

The Public Safety and Security Committee oversees matters relating to homeland security, the Department of Public Safety, including state police, state organized task force on crime, municipal police training, fire marshals, the fire safety code and the state building code, civil preparedness and legalized gambling, and military and veterans’ affairs, except veterans’ pensions.  The Insurance and Real Estate Committee has cognizance of all matters relating to insurance law and real estate law.

Yaccarino was first elected to the general assembly in 2010 and ran unopposed in 2012. Yaccarino represents the town of North Haven.
