Rep. Yaccarino Leads Volunteer Clean-up of Seniors’ Yards

Rep. Yaccarino and a group of dedicated volunteers spent Saturday morning and early afternoon tackling much needed yard clean-up jobs for three North Haven seniors. In an effort to give back to their community, the group, including both adults and North Haven High School students, removed about a dozen bags of leaves and cleared three yards.

The group started on Redbrick Lane where they raked leaves, cleaned up sticks and debris, cleaned out flower beds and around shrubs and swept the driveway before moving a short distance to Grove Road to continue their clean-up mission at two more homes.
Many of the homes had wooded areas behind them allowing the volunteers to dispose of the leaves and sticks on the property which made the task a little easier.

“This winter took a toll on a lot of people, especially our elderly population,” Rep. Yaccarino said. “I organized this spring clean-up effort to help seniors who can’t quite maintain their properties as they once did. North Haven is a wonderful place to live and giving back to our residents is what unites our community.”

Ultimately, the crew of about 15 spent several hours working before being rewarded with cookies and soda generously provided by Ms. Dorothy Acampora after they cleaned her yard.

“I’m a firm believer in volunteerism, no matter if it’s small or large, it all helps the community and makes a better place for all of us,” Rep. Yaccarino said. “I’m fortunate enough to be able to do this, I have the health to do this, and I have a great group of volunteers, it’s a great day.”
