Representative Dave Yaccarino and Sen. Len Fasano met with more than 75 concerned citizens who packed the community room of the North Haven Library for a state budget town hall meeting hosted by the legislators.

The meeting was a chance for residents to discuss the state budget, looming deficit and alternatives to Governor Malloy’s tax increases. After a brief power point presentation on the proposed budget Rep. Yaccarino answered questions from the audience.

Rep. Yaccarino said he appreciated the comments and questions from the audience as he too is concerned the Governor’s tax raising proposals will negatively impact the people of North Haven.

“Connecticut families are already struggling in this economy and the Governor’s proposal doesn’t go far enough with spending cuts before raising taxes on basic necessities. North Haven families have had to tighten their belts and do more with less; it’s time for the state to do the same,” he said.

The Governor’s budget increases state spending by nearly $1 million over two years and relies on increased tax revenue at a time when many Connecticut families, especially the middle class, are hurting.
