On Monday January 21st, State Rep. Dave Yaccarino (R-North Haven) was among legislators chosen to speak at the BioCT Legislative Breakfast hosted by Alexion Pharmaceuticals in New Haven. Attendees included leaders and members of the bioscience and STEM communities from Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts.

“Promoting the sciences in Connecticut has always been one of my top priorities as a legislator. From the day I was elected, I committed to help shape our state into a hub for bioscience and STEM, recognizing the benefits of our strong colleges and universities and the need for a local industry hub. Since then, our biosciences and STEM market has boomed, putting us in competition with national giants in New York, California, and Massachusetts. This cultivated what is now a multi-million dollar industry in our backyard, creating countless other jobs by retrofitting older buildings for use,” Rep. Yaccarino said.

Rep. Yaccarino serves as Co-chair of the legislature’s bipartisan Biosciences Caucus.

“This incredible display by the bioscience community has realized so many of my visions as a lawmaker, and showcases the importance of listening, learning, and being competitive. Together with those principles, we can make Connecticut a better state with a strong economy, breakthroughs in science, and expanded healthcare access for rare diseases,” Rep. Yaccarino continued. “It was a great honor to contribute to this discussion.”

Rep. Yaccarino was one of three legislators to host the panel, joining State Senators Tony Hwang and Christine Cohen.
