Rep. Dave Yaccarino Calls Out Culture of Corruption in Connecticut, Urges Focus on Real Issues Affecting Residents

HARTFORD– State Representative Dave Yaccarino (R-North Haven) joined Republicans in calling for an end to the pervasive culture of corruption in Connecticut’s government and demanding that Democrat leadership prioritize the real concerns of everyday residents—such as lowering energy costs, funding education, and ensuring public safety.
“The culture of corruption is strong in Connecticut, and Democrat leadership continues to ignore the voices of hardworking residents who want action on the real problems they face,” said Rep. Yaccarino. “Instead of addressing critical issues like rising energy costs and the economy, we see example after example of government officials misusing taxpayer dollars for personal benefit.”
Rep. Yaccarino pointed to a series of alarming incidents that demonstrate a troubling pattern of misconduct:
- Taxpayer-funded brunches for CSCU Chancellor Cheng while the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system holds $460 million in reserves.
- Misuse of state vehicles by the Governor’s direct staff.
- Illegal sales of towed vehicles by a Department of Motor Vehicles employee.
- Voter fraud concerns in Bridgeport.
“With $460 million sitting in reserves at CSCU, we could fully fund special education across our state or use those funds to alleviate the Public Benefit Charge that drives up energy bills for Connecticut families,” said Yaccarino. “Instead, we have a questionable stockpiling public money while taxpayers struggle. Even more concerning is Chancellor Cheng’s refusal to make a permanent commitment to reside in our state.”
Rep. Yaccarino joined House Minority Leader Vincent Candelora and fellow Republicans in demanding transparency and accountability.
“Our residents deserve better,” Yaccarino added. “We need sunlight on these issues—not corrupt officials operating in the dark. Democrat leadership must stop abusing taxpayer dollars for personal gain and start focusing on the people they are supposed to serve.”
