State Rep. Dave Yaccarino (R-87) and State Sen. Paul Ciccarella (R-34) applaud the recent announcement that North Haven will receive a Connecticut Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $1,500,000 for infrastructure upgrades to modernize and rehabilitate housing for low and moderate-income individuals.

The funds granted to North Haven will be used for improvements at Temple Pines, a Senior Living Complex. This project will undertake significant renovations that include but are not limited to the replacement of the building elevator, replacement of the fire alarm system, and installation of a security camera system. This project will also meet ADA code compliance by renovating the kitchens and bathrooms of three units. Further upgrades include meeting accessibility code compliance to common areas to the front entry, laundry, bathrooms, office entry door, and the community room. Energy efficiency improvements will be made throughout that will include window replacements, installation of LED interior lighting, and a new trash compactor. This project includes the installation of a whole campus generator supplying power to all units in the event of an emergency.

“This grant funding will revitalize our community where it is most needed and benefit our seniors. I’d like to thank all parties involved in securing this grant to North Haven as it will go a long way toward improving our town and assisting our residents,” State Rep. Dave Yaccarino said.

“Our seniors are such an integral part of our community and it’s very important that they have a safe, secure, and affordable place to live. Thank you to all those involved in the grant process,” State Senator Paul Ciccarella.

CDBG are available to towns and cities with a population less than 50,000 and for projects that develop and preserve affordable housing, provide services to the most vulnerable residents in their communities, and also create and retain jobs.

In total, $9 million in grants were awarded to six municipalities for infrastructure upgrades that will modernize and rehabilitate housing for low and moderate-income individuals.
