State Representative Dave Yaccarino is encouraging residents to participate in ongoing toy and clothing drives in North Haven to benefit children and families in need. Yaccarino, in conjunction with the Community Services and Recreation Department for the Town of North Haven will be collecting toys and clothing to be distributed to those in need between now and December 13th.

Community Services has a need for new clothing items (with tags) specifically for teenage children, though donations for all age groups are welcome. A collection bin will be located at the North Haven Town Hall Annex Building and Yaccarino will also be collecting donations at his store, DJ’s Cards and Comics at 1 Lincoln Street in North Haven (across from McDonald’s).

The program is intended for income eligible North Haven families with children ages 18 and under.  Appointments for families to select items are available between December 16th and December 20th.  Families must present a driver’s license or photo ID and complete a one page application upon arrival. Call 203-239-5321 x500 to make your appointment to privately select 4 items per child.

Note to those interested in donating toys:  The Department welcomes donations of new, unwrapped toys, however there is a shortage for “teen friendly” items. Donations can be dropped off to the Department of Community Services office, at the Town Hall Annex Building, 5 Linsley St., from Monday through Friday, between 8:30am and 4:30pm, from now until December 13th.

If you would like to sign up, receive further information or have any questions regarding these programs, please contact the Department of Community Services and Recreation at 203-239-5321 x500.
