Coat, Drive Nets Hundreds of Donations Donations to Benefit North Haven Residents

State Representative Dave Yaccarino (R-87), joined by students from North Haven’s Alternative High School “The Other Way” (T.O.W.) program, donated their time Friday afternoon to sort hundreds of coat, hats, gloves and scarves to benefit those in need this upcoming winter season.
Rep. Yaccarino, volunteer Don Clark Sr., teachers and the 13 students from the school separated, organized and packaged more than 500 hundreds jackets and coats, hats and countless pairs of gloves to be distributed to the Columbus House shelter and local soup kitchens.
“Despite the temperate weather we’ve had so far this year, I know it’s only a matter of time before temperatures drop and these coats, hats and gloves will be sorely needed,” Rep. Yaccarino said. “I’m happy to announce that in a short time we were able to collect hundreds of high-quality jackets and accessories to be distributed free of charge to those in need.”
Rep. Yaccarino organized the event and elicited help from the Alternative High School to assist in processing the sheer volume of donations.
“These kids have been a tremendous help from the start, I’m proud of them” Rep. Yaccarino said. “They donated their time to collect and sort through a mountainous volume of donated clothing and they did it in record time. The recipients of this clothing will no doubt benefit from their volunteerism and service to the North Haven Community.”
Rep. Yaccarino would also like to thank the following businesses and town agencies for their continued community support and for serving as collection points for the clothing: Arnold’s Jewelers, North Haven Library, The River House Tavern, DJ’s Sports Collectibles & Comics, Town Hall Annex, the North Haven Senior Center and North Haven Community Services.
