Representative Weir Reappointed House Ranking Member of Labor Committee

HARTFORD – State Representative Steve Weir (R-55) has been reappointed Ranking Member of the General Assembly’s Finance Committee by House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora (R-86).
A Ranking Member is the designated leader from the minority party on a committee. Each committee has a House and Senate ranking member. Individuals who serve in this role are responsible for bringing forward legislation and communicating to their caucuses details about bills voted out of committees.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues to encourage business investment, improve the economic climate, and increase employment in the state, while also having frank discussions about why and how we continue to fall short in these areas,” Rep. Weir said.
“Connecticut has a history of being unfriendly to business and in this committee, we have a great opportunity to transform that reputation. It’s difficult to encourage investment when the laws and regulations work in stark contrast to that objective. My goal as ranking member is to begin moving Connecticut closer to achieving its true potential,” Rep. Weir said.
Among the many topics handled by the Labor Committee are issues tied to the state’s Department of Labor, laws related to collective bargaining for both state and municipal employees, occupational health and safety, and unemployment compensation.
Rep. Weir’s reassignment will take effect on Wednesday, January 8th at the start of the 2025 legislative session.
