Today, I had the opportunity to visit two assisted living, residential care facilities that offer a unique contrast and alternative to that of a traditional nursing home.

As a former geriatric nurse of almost 30 years, Corinne DiBacco, owner of By the River and By the River 2 in Marlborough, said her goal is to provide her residents with a high level of companionship, compassion, and care.

Each Jones Hollow Road location features a spacious open concept 7,000 ft2 home offering both private and semi-private rooms (12 in each) in a communal setting with caregivers operating in the background. Residents eat meals collectively and generally spend time with one another either in the large living spaces or outdoors on their expansive patios and porches. Families of those living there are also free to come and visit at any time.
