Rep. Weir Tours Local Hair Salon, Discusses CT’s Business Climate

As someone who has owned and operated a small business, adversity comes in many forms. For PerSNIPity Salon, business owners Crandall Yopp, Lisa Yopp, and Suzi Stula, their resilience during these challenging times is truly one of sheer determination.
As if navigating a business during the COVID-19 pandemic was difficult enough, two short years later, a fire in the Teds Supermarket plaza almost destroyed it for good. Thankfully, they were able to recover.
Today, CT River Valley Chamber President Jessica Olander and I got a first-hand look at their transformation and learned about some of the other challenging things they’re facing now that they are up and running again. Crandall said that one of the salon’s biggest hurdles is the entire plaza uses a well system for their water and the issues that arise when water runs out and you still have yet to wash/rinse colored hair. Additionally, their electricity costs have also increased to the tune of $300 dollars a month.
