Glastonbury Citizen Column – MARCH 2023

Last week, I joined my fellow Glastonbury House colleagues Jill Barry and Jason Doucette at the Riverfront Community Center for a joint Legislative Town Hall. Prior to our meeting, the three of us me with local educators who provided us with relative concerns and comments regarding their profession and hearing their feedback is vital. As someone who comes from a family of Glastonbury educators – my mother was a teacher, my brother is currently a Glastonbury teacher, and beginning in the next school year my oldest daughter will start her career as teacher.
Our Legislative Town Hall was a very robust discussion where residents brought their concerns on topics that ranged from early voting, social security income, affordable housing, issues surrounding rent caps and fair rent along with additional items they’d like the legislature to address. All of these topics extremely important not only on a federal level, but on a local level as well.
As a first-term legislator, hearing directly from our community and its members about issues that directly impact the people I serve is an essential part of my role as a policy maker and integral to ensuring I bring those voices directly to any policies discussed at our State Capitol.
If you weren’t able to make it to the meeting but are interested in reaching out to me on any issue that surrounds state government, my office is always open. I can be reached via email at Steve.Weir@housegop.ct.gov, or by calling my office at (800) 842-1423. If you’re interested in signing up to receive my email notifications on future community meetings along with a wide variety of other district-wide topics, visit my website at www.repweir.com.
It’s a pleasure to represent Glastonbury as part of the 55th District in the General Assembly and I look forward to continuing to do so over the next year and a half.
