For more than two years, my Republican colleagues have echoed the frustrations from residents who are saddled with exorbitant electricity bills. This session, I joined my colleagues in supporting SB-647, which would have removed the more than 50 fees that are included within the public benefits charge on your utility bills. Due to this bill not being called prior to the committee’s bill deadlines, an amendment was proposed that would have allowed it to be added to their agenda (during their last meeting) so future debate in the House/Senate could have possibly taken place.
Guess what? Every single Democrat present on this committee voted in opposition to this amendment.
Reducing Connecticut’s energy costs shouldn’t be a partisan issue. Reducing these costs is a commonsense solution, and will provide much needed relief for residents, while also making Connecticut more attractive to businesses that consume lots of electricity, like manufacturers.
