Several new laws will be taking effect on Saturday, July 1. These laws cover a range of topics, from improving accessibility of developmental programs, further protecting victims of domestic violence, to expanding the eligibility of critical health services. I have highlighted some of the major acts below and encourage you to review all the newly effective laws.
Accessing Developmental Programs – Individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities will have a better experience when applying for and engaging in state offered developmental services. These services include day programs, employment opportunities, healthcare, and housing options.
Expanding Domestic Violence Victim Protections – Those who have experienced the trauma of domestic violence need safe and stable options so they can remove themselves from a toxic environment. This new law will expand the resources available to victims, providing the necessary legal and financial assistance to those in crisis.
Improving Health and Wellness – Connecticut residents deserve better access to critical health services. This new law will help strengthen the state’s healthcare workforce, it charges the Dept. of Public Health with the development of a maternal mental health tool kit, and will add more drug use harm reduction centers.
