During opening day ceremonies in the Connecticut General Assembly today, State Representative Joe Polletta (R-68) joined his colleagues and took the oath to continue to represent the people of the 68th District of Watertown, Oakville and Woodbury.

For the 2019-2020 session, Rep. Polletta will serve on three legislative committees, including as Ranking Member of the Labor Committee, and as a member of the Finance Committee and the Insurance and Real Estate Committee.  Ranking Members are the designated leaders of the minority party for each committee.

“I’m excited to be back in Hartford to continue working on the major issues impacting our state, and I’m honored to be appointed to serve as Ranking Member of the Labor Committee this session,” Rep. Polletta said.

According to the General Assembly website, “the Labor Committee has cognizance of all matters relating to workers’ compensation, unemployment compensation, conditions of employment, hours of labor, minimum wages, industrial safety, occupational health and safety, labor unions and labor disputes; all matters relating to the Department of Labor; and all matters relating to conditions of employment of state and municipal employees and the substantive law of state and municipal employees’ collective bargaining.”

“This is going to be a very busy session and while we have many large issues to tackle I am confident we will be able to work together and with the new governor to find savings, pay down debt, balance the budget and push Connecticut forward,” Rep. Polletta said.

Previously, he served on the Banking Committee, Housing Committee and the Insurance and Real Estate Committee.

Polletta was originally elected to fill the seat vacated by now State Senator Eric Berthel during a special election on May 25, 2017. He won reelection to his second term in November, 2018.
