Rep. Polletta Appointed Ranking Member of the Housing Committee

HARTFORD –On Friday, State Representative Joe Poletta (R-68) was appointed Ranking Member of the General Assembly’s Housing Committee by House Republican Leader-elect State Representative Vincent Candelora (R-86). A Ranking Member serves as the leader of the minority party in committee meetings and works with the Committee Leadership to bring forward legislation.
“Joe has brought energy and new ideas to our caucus since he was first elected and just completed his first term as a Ranking member on the Labor Committee. That role required patience, listening and a willingness to understand issues from a diverse perspective. Housing across our state is also very diverse and he will be a great advocate and listener. I understand the larger conversation happening around affordable housing and Joe does, too. I am confident he will immerse himself in the subject matter and provide opportunities for everyone to have their voice heard,” said Rep. Candelora. “He continues to be a bright light in our caucus and his approachable nature will be a benefit to advocates across the spectrum as housing policy is being debated across the state.”
The Housing Committee oversees the state Department of Housing and has cognizance over all matters relating to housing programs and regulations.
“I look forward to taking on this leadership role in the next session. It is an honor to be appointed to this position and I appreciate the trust Leader Candelora and my caucus colleagues have placed in me,” commented Rep. Poletta. “Housing and related issues have taken on renewed urgency during the pandemic. I look forward to working with committee leadership and members to advance sound housing policy.”
Rep. Poletta was elected in 2017 and is now entering his third term. During the 2019-2020 session, he served as Ranking Member of the Labor Committee, and was a member of the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee, and the Insurance & Real Estate Committee.
