HARTFORD – State Representative Cara Pavalock-D’Amato (R-77) has taken the oath-of-office for her fifth full term representing the 77th General Assembly District which includes the City of Bristol.

For the 2023-2024 legislative session, Rep. Pavalock will remain as Ranking Member of the legislatures Insurance Committee as well as serving in a new leadership role as House Republican Whip.

“Each new legislative session brings on its own distinct challenges and obstacles, but I look forward to sitting down with the committee members and continuing to work on behalf of the residents of Connecticut as the Ranking Member of the Insurance Committee,” said Rep. Pavalock.

Additionally, Rep. Pavalock will also serve as a member of the Finance, Judiciary, and Screening Committees.

Among matters under the Judiciary Committee’s umbrella are courts, judicial procedures, criminal law, judicial appointments, and probate as well as matters related to the Boards of Pardons and Paroles, the Judicial Department, and the Department of Correction.

The Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee has jurisdiction over all matters relating to finance, revenue, capital bonding, fees, and taxation. The committee also has cognizance over employer contributions for unemployment compensation and all matters relating to the Department of Revenue Services and the revenue aspects of the Division of Special Revenue.

Wednesday’s ceremony kicked off the start of the legislature’s “long session” which runs from January 4 through June 7. Connecticut’s legislature is part-time, with regular sessions held from January to June in odd-numbered years, and from February to May in even-numbered years. The “long session” is used to establish a state budget and introduce bills of a general nature. In the even-year “short session” the legislature can only consider bills directly related to the state budget, revenue, and financial matters, as well as committee bills or resolutions, and those matters certified to be of an emergency nature.
