    On Friday, Sept. 18, a Stand Down event for homeless veterans will be held at the Connecticut Veterans Home at 287 West Street, Rocky Hill, Connecticut, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    *Please note that all veterans are invited to attend. Veterans do not have to be homeless to receive benefits.

    The event will provide medical screenings, veteran benefit information, legal and motor vehicle assistance, employment and educational assistance, and free bus transportation to veterans.

    In our area, bus transportation will be provided by OA&A from the Naugatuck VFW – 239 Rubber Avenue at 7:15 a.m.

    Also, bus transportation will be provided from the VACT Medical Center, Building 2, Main Entrance – 950 Campbell Avenue in West Haven at 6:30 a.m.

    The first Stand Down event for homeless veterans took place in San Diego California in 1988. The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV) has backed and supported Stand Down events nationally since 2002.
