In 2021, the legislature passed Public Act 21-6, which removed a parent or guardian’s ability, on the basis of religious grounds, to refuse immunizations for their children. This session, I have submitted HB-5629, with the intention to reverse that decision and reinstitute the religious exemption for school children.
Connecticut is only one of only six states (California, Maine, Minnesota, New York, and West Virginia) that does not currently permit a religious exemption.
