State Rep. Cara Pavalock-D’Amato (R-22) spent her morning honoring Dr. Seuss’ birthday while reading to kids at Edgewood Elementary, Hubbell Elementary, and Mountain View Elementary School as part of ‘Read Across America Day’ events. Rep. Pavalock-D’Amato expressed how she looks forward to this annual tradition of promoting literacy and enjoys the conversations she has with the students after each story.

“I enjoy visiting local schools on Read Across America Day because it gives me an opportunity to spread a love of reading that is so important for our youngsters to have. Reading is a great way to facilitate critical thinking, innovation, imagination, and expand one’s vocabulary,” Rep. Pavalock-D’Amato said. “I’d like to thank all of the hard-working people in our local schools for their dedication to promote reading skills and make learning fun – along with everything else they do. You are appreciated.”

The aim of the Read Across America program is to raise literary awareness by motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources.

According to their website, The National Education Association (NEA) seeks to build a nation of readers through its signature program – Read Across America. The event involves more than 3.2 million teachers, librarians, athletes, celebrities, politicians, business professionals and everyday people reading to students across the country.

The annual event was established by NEA in 1998 and has become the largest reading event in the country.
