Pavalock Stands Up for Bristol Hospital, Criticizes Malloy’s Hospital Cuts

Hartford – State Rep. Cara Pavalock offered further criticism of the Malloy administration for its recent $63.4 M reduction in Medicaid payments to hospitals last week.  Following a joint press conference held yesterday by House and Senate Republicans, which also included Connecticut Hospital Association CEO Jennifer Jackson, along with CEOs from community hospitals, Pavalock released the following statement:

“I am very concerned about the action taken by Gov. Malloy with these latest cuts to our community hospitals. Our community hospitals, including Bristol Hospital, are a staple part of our local economies as well as the state’s economy. This action will inevitably force hospitals to lay off staff, which will have severe consequences on their ability to continue to provide healthcare services and programs for those most in need.”

“It is unfortunate that the governor is choosing to balance the state budget not only on the backs of, but now at the expense of, the health and well-being of the people of Connecticut.  I stand with all community hospitals and my fellow Republican legislators in calling for a special session to address this very serious issue. The best solutions come from productive discussion among all of those involved.  Let’s go back to the table, and let’s have those conversations and develop equitable solutions.  Jeopardizing the health and well-being of Connecticut residents is not the answer to this problem.”

The governor’s cuts include a more than a $5.8 million cut for Bristol Hospital. Full details about all cuts are available via the Office of Fiscal Analysis.

Yesterday, I had the honor of joining some of my state and federal colleagues to acknowledge the service of a true local hero. As a highly decorated member of the United State Army Reserve, Chief Warrant Officer 5 Patrick Nelligan has dedicated his life to this country, so as he enters retirement it was only […]
