In 1914 when Janet Defonzo was born, milk cost .32¢, a loaf of bread was .06¢, gas was .12¢, a car was $500, and it was $3,500 for an average home. During her lifetime, she’s seen 19 presidents, lived through the women’s suffrage movement, prohibition, the great depression, two world wars, and many other historical events.
Today, 110 years later, I had the privilege of joining her family, friends, and staff at Ingraham Manor, to celebrate her 110th birthday.
Janet truly is an amazing woman, and it was an honor to have been there to celebrate and recognize her with a legislative citation on behalf of the entire Bristol delegation on this monumental occasion.
