BRISTOL– Last week, Bristol State Representatives Cara C. Pavalock (R-77) and Whit Betts (R-78) joined Bristol ShopRite in the fight against hunger. The legislators, along with area volunteers, rolled up their sleeves throughout the day and participated in the ‘Help Bag Hunger’ event to raise awareness and funds for food banks in the community.

“Shoprite is a wonderful organization that continuously seeks ways to provide for the needy families in Bristol not just today, but throughout the year,” said Rep. Pavalock. “Just this summer, the Bristol ShopRite hosted a Free Lunch program at the Bristol Library that provided lunch to thousands of area children. We must continue to find ways to help the neediest among us, and I encourage the residents of Bristol to join me in fighting hunger in our neighborhoods.”

“It is important that we do everything we can to help fight hunger in our communities. Events like ‘Help Bag Hunger’ bring greater visibility to the cause and help raise funds to feed our neighbors in need,” said Rep. Betts. “I’m pleased to join Bristol ShopRite at this important event in supporting our neighbors in need by providing funds and resources for the local food pantries that serve our community.”

Throughout the month of September, shoppers have the opportunity to continue to support this initiative at checkout by adding to their bill in $1 increments. Contributions will go to support local food banks through Foodshare, where each dollar donated buys one pound of food.   The “Help Bag Hunger” event, held during September’s National Hunger Action Month, is part of ShopRite’s year-round Partners in Caring Program. Since it was launched in 1999, Partners in Caring has provided more than $38 million to local food banks that support more than 1,700 charities in providing food assistance throughout the Northeast, according to Torna ShopRite Community Liaison, Mary Lou Grendziszewski.

To continue raising awareness and funds to fight hunger, Partners in Caring will host its 3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off between the Bristol Police Department and the Bristol Fire Department on Friday, September 25 from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., at the Bristol ShopRite. Guests can participate by voting for their favorite chili. For more information, please email Mary Lou Grendziszewski at maryloug@torna-shoprite.com.

    Rep. Pavalock-D’Amato Recognizes Local Hero

Yesterday, I had the honor of joining some of my state and federal colleagues to acknowledge the service of a true local hero. As a highly decorated member of the United State Army Reserve, Chief Warrant Officer 5 Patrick Nelligan has dedicated his life to this country, so as he enters retirement it was only […]
