The Tree Bill Will Require Replanting of Removed Trees Along Merritt Parkway

HARTFORD, CT – On Tuesday, Deputy House Minority Leader Tom O’Dea (R-125) voted to pass a substitute for HB 6744, dubbed the Tree Bill, through the Environment Committee. The bill passed the committee by a vote tally of 23-9 and is now referred to the Appropriations Committee for further action.

The bill would require the Department of Transportation to seek approval from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection

HARTFORD – On Thursday, State Representative Tom O’Dea (R-125) announced that the State Bond Commission voted to confirm a series of state grants to municipalities in favor of specific community-building initiatives.

The announced funding includes an award of $38,561 to the town of New Canaan reimbursing the Police Department for expenses of body-worn cameras, dashboard cameras, and video storage devices.

UPDATE AS OF FRIDAY 3/24, 1:30PM: Optimum has announced that their team is onsite repairing extensive damage, which is expected to carry into Saturday 3/25 before connection is completely restored.

On Friday Morning, I was informed that internet service in most of New Canaan and parts of Stamford has been disabled temporarily due to a suspected act of vandalism at a distribution facility in Norwalk.

I want to inform you that Metro-North Railroad and the Connecticut Department of Transportation have announced their intention to close the New Canaan Branch Line of MNR to pursue a construction project. The New Canaan line will be closed from May 30th – August 18th, 2023.

The construction plan intends to replace the tracks and a portion of rail, and replace bridge timbers on 3 bridges, allowing them to lift a current speed restriction. Busing will be provided.
