HARTFORD – Rep. Tammy Nuccio, R-Tolland, applauded a decision by the state’s Bonding Commission on Friday that will allow for more than $2 million in capitol improvements in Tolland and Vernon. The projects represent an important investment in public safety and infrastructure for the 53rd District towns.

The commission approved:

  • A $1 million investment in the Tolland Fire Department for capital improvements for the department, including repairs of fire stations
  • More than $1.6 million for the construction of sanitary sewer and pump stations near exits 66 and 67 near Interstate 84 in Vernon
  • More than $106,000 towards the reimbursement of the purchase of cameras and storage devices for the Vernon Police Department

The Town of Tolland also has been awarded a “micro” grant of $1,813 from the state Department of Agriculture to promote a new farmers market on the Town Green via social media, print advertising, promotional signs, and a banner. The grant is meant for certified farmers’ market promotion and outreach.

“Investments like these are critical for our communities, especially public safety, which continues to be a top priority for me,” Rep. Nuccio said. “Funding for these projects will help our firefighters and police, while the agriculture grant will help showcase the great farms and businesses we have right here in the 53rd District. I’d like to thank the Bond Commission and the Department of Agriculture for their continued commitment to Vernon and Tolland.”
