Stratford legislators are pleased to announce the expected approval by the State Bond Commission of funding for improvements to Sterling House Community Center on Tuesday, July 12.

“Sterling House offers many indispensable recreational and educational programs for all age groups and this funding will facilitate access and safety at the center,” State Rep. Joe Gresko said. “I will continue to support anything we can do to enhance the grounds and support the delivery of services.”

“This elevator project represents an essential step forward in enhancing the effectiveness of Sterling House in doing the important charitable things that are central to its mission,” said State Rep. Laura R. Hoydick.  “I am especially thankful to the governor, Ben Barnes and the Office of Policy and Management for their work in ensuring that this additional $1.2 million was a priority on the Bond Commission agenda this month.”

“The Sterling House does critical charitable work throughout Stratford, and this elevator project is very important to their operational capabilities,” said State Rep. Ben McGorty. “I am pleased to see these bond funds approved for this important project.”

Sen. Kevin Kelly said, “The Sterling House Community Center is an incredible asset to the people of Stratford. I cannot thank the organization enough for all the wonderful things they do for our community and how they empower people to reach their full potential. This funding will go towards needed safety improvements and will help make the center accessible to everyone. With a new elevator and other updates this grant will ensure that people with disabilities and seniors have access to the food pantry. I thank my colleagues in the Stratford delegation for working together to secure this funding for this well deserving organization. Investing in the Sterling House will help build and enhance our community for generations to come. It’s the kind of programming that must remain a priority as our state faces tough financial times.”

“Sterling House is a crucial part of the Stratford community,” said Senator Ed Gomes. “This new funding will make sure even more people can access the important services provided for people of all ages. I would like to thank the whole Stratford delegation for working to get this done.”

The center will receive $1,200,000 as a second installment for the same amount toward the installation of an elevator and other accessibility and safety improvements. Sterling House is a multi-service community that provides affordable social, educational and recreational activities, for people of all ages, which assist them in their positive and healthy development.

The funds are expected to be approved by the State Bond Commission when it meets on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in Room 1E of the Legislative Office Building.
