STRATFORD DELEGATION WELCOMES FUNDS TO FURTHER DOWNTOWN TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT (TOD) PROJECT

Stratford’s state legislative delegation welcomes the expected approval of funding for downtown improvements by the state Bond Commission this Friday. The state Bond Commission is scheduled to meet January 30th at 10:30 a.m. in the Legislative Office Building.
Stratford is expected to be approved for $200,000 to fund the development of a Complete Streets Improvement Plan for Stratford Center, within a half mile of the Stratford train station. The plan will identify the need for transportation-related improvements in the area, including bicycle/pedestrian mobility, urban design strategies, and green infrastructure, among others.
Over the past year, the Stratford train station has been renovated with additional parking spaces and configuration.
“Good results will come from good plans, and this funding approval is a critical part in increasing the efficiency and design of Stratford Center,” said Rep. Ben McGorty (R-122).
“A comprehensive design plan which takes into account the numerous moving parts and concerns centered around Stratford Center will be essential in creating meaningful improvements,” said Rep. Laura Hoydick (R-120). “Since 2000, the residential and business communities have been active participants in the redesign of Stratford Center and it is imperative that public input continue to be part of the process. I appreciate the Bond Commission approving the funds to move this essential part of the plan forward.”
“A vibrant downtown says this is a place where I want to live, work and raise a family,” said State Representative Terry Backer (D-121). “Modernizing and streamlining flow will benefit both commuters and residents.”
