State Rep. Ben McGorty, House Republican Leader Themis Klarides and area legislators will be hosting a Farmers to Family Food box distribution event to benefit the greater Naugatuck Valley that will take place Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Nolan Field in Ansonia.

The event will take place from noon to 6:30 p.m. or for as long as the supplies last. At least 1,150 food boxes will be handed out. Nolan Field is located at 461 Wakelee Ave., in Ansonia.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture F2F food program is being coordinated by the Friendly Hands Food Bank of Torrington Director Karen Thomas and Ralph DelBuono of Roma’s Restaurant in Oakville. Also helping out is TEAM Inc. of Derby, a local non-profit run by CEO/President David Morgan.

“The public response to this program has been overwhelming. Unemployment remains high due to the COVID virus and businesses are still closed. The Farmers to Family initiative fills a big void for Connecticut families and individuals,’’ the lawmakers said.

The boxes will contain 12 pounds of produce, five pounds of meat and five pounds of dairy, plus a gallon of milk.

The lawmakers will be joined by their greater Naugatuck Valley colleagues and local officials: State Representatives Rosa Rebimbas, Jason Perillo, Ben McGorty, and David Labriola. From the State Senate George Logan, Eric Berthel, and Kevin Kelly will take part. Local Officials participating are: Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti, Seymour First Selectman Kurt Miller, Deputy First Selectman Annmarie Drugonis, Derby Mayor Richard Dzieken, Beacon Falls First Selectman Gerry Smith, Oxford First Selectman George Temple and Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti.
