Rep. McGorty Named Co-Chair of Fire and EMS Legislative Caucus

HARTFORD – Lawmakers on the Fire and EMS Legislative Caucus voted on Wednesday to make State Representative Ben McGorty a co-chair of the bipartisan caucus with State Representative Pat Boyd. Rep. McGorty will serve as a co-chair for the 2019 and 2020 legislative sessions.

“I look forward to working with co-chair State Rep. Pat Boyd, my fellow colleagues in the caucus, and public safety officers from across the state on legislation that will make their lives better and keep them safe when they are protecting our communities,” said Rep. McGorty. “This session we will continue to work on passing legislation to help public safety officers suffering from PTSD from job-related experiences and will work to see that the next administration moves the building of the Valley Fire Training School forward. We have a lot to accomplish but if we put public safety officers first and put our political differences aside we can get it done.”

Rep. McGorty has 38 years of experience in public safety generally in the fire service. McGorty started his service as a volunteer for the Cos Cob Fire Department and then the Huntington Fire Department. He has been employed for the past twenty years as a Deputy Fire Marshal for the City of Shelton and has been a Fire Commissioner for the City of Shelton for the past ten years. McGorty has also worked as an assistant to the Director of Emergency Management and a Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Shelton.
