Rep. McGorty, Legislators Have Coffee with Trumbull Residents

TRUMBULL- Trumbull State Reps. David Rutigliano (R-123), Laura Devlin (R-134) and Ben McGorty (R-122) hosted a “Coffee Hour with Your Legislators” event at Chip’s Family Restaurant in Trumbull on June 24th.

During the evening meet and greet with diners the three Trumbull state representatives listened to Trumbull residents who shared their concerns on a variety of issues. The issues discussed included the additional tax burdens on Trumbull residents anticipated by the new state budget passed by the majority party and agreed to by Governor Lamont.

Rep. Rutigliano said, “People expressed concern over what they view as a piling on of more and more taxes and fees. Although we were able to beat back plans to shift a portion of the teachers’ pension on local taxpayers and fight plans to force school districts to regionalize, many residents will feel the fiscal pinch as state government reaches back into their wallet for more of their family income.”

“I want to thank everyone who came out to talk on Monday night and share their thoughts on the state of our state and new laws coming out of Hartford. Meetings like this are important, to hear directly from you, and have a dialog with our constituents. We discussed many issues, including that the threat of tolls in Connecticut continuing to be a key concern. Let’s not let summer distract us from a possible debate on tolls,” said Devlin.

“We had a great conversation with residents about the 2019 legislative,” said Rep. McGorty. “People are concerned with the direction the state is headed in and the one party rule in Hartford. We need residents to continue to speak up and contact the governor to tell him things need to change in Hartford.”

Constituents were happy and grateful that Reps. Rutigliano, Devlin and McGorty were there to listen to what was on their minds and get the latest update from the Capitol.
