HARTFORD – State Rep. Ben McGorty (R-122) officially became a member of the legislature’s bi-partisan Fire and EMS Caucus on Tuesday during the first meeting of the newly formed caucus.
“I am proud to be a member of the new Fire and EMS Caucus in Hartford,” said Rep. McGorty, a longtime volunteer firefighter, Deputy Fire Marshal, and Fire Commissioner in Shelton. “The caucus has a number of lawmakers that have experience in the field, and I am excited to start working with them to find ways we can tackle issues impacting firefighters and EMS officers.”
Rep. McGorty is a strong supporter of public safety officers, supporting legislation in 2016 that established a firefighter’s cancer relief program, and funding this year for regional fire training schools.
Co-chairs, State Reps. Brian Ohler and Pat Boyd announced in May their plans to form the Fire and EMS Caucus. The caucus will focus on will specific public safety issues that first responders must navigate on a daily basis.
