McGorty Receives Committee Assignments for 2015

Newlyre-elected State Representative Ben McGorty (R-122) has received his legislative committee assignments for the 2015 Session. McGorty won a special election on July 22nd to fill out the remainder of the term of the late State Representative Larry Miller who passed away on May 31st. On November 4th, McGorty was elected to his own two-year term representing parts of Shelton, Stratford and Trumbull. His appointments come from House Republican Leader Themis Klarides (R-114).
McGorty will serve on the legislature’s powerful budget-writing Appropriations Committee which has cognizance over appropriations and the budgets of state agencies. Other issues under the committee’s jurisdiction include matters relating to state employees’ salaries, benefits and retirement, teachers’ retirement and veterans’ pensions and collective bargaining agreements and arbitration awards for all state employees.
He has also been re-appointed to the Environment Committee which oversees all matters relating to the Department of Environmental Protection, including conservation, recreation, pollution control, fisheries and game, state parks and forests, water resources and flood and erosion control; and all matters relating to the Department of Agriculture, including farming, dairy products and domestic animals.
In addition Rep. McGorty will serve on the legislature’s Judiciary Committee which oversees matters relating to courts, judicial procedures, and criminal law, as well as all reviews all judicial nominees.

The 2015 legislative session begins on January 7th.
