McGorty & Perillo Launch ‘Small Business Highlights’ at Caloroso Eatery & Bar in Shelton

Beginning this month State Representatives Ben McGorty (R-122) & Jason Perillo (R-113) have launched “Small Business Highlights” where they will be meeting with successful local Shelton businesses and highlighting the stories of their success in a changed Connecticut economy.
For their first installment, Perillo & McGorty sat down with Mathew Calandro, owner of Caloroso Eatery & Bar located at 100 Center Street in Shelton. Caloroso was established by Mathew and his wife Kelly three years ago. They were looking to provide Shelton, and the surrounding Valley towns with a casual, contemporary, and family-oriented dining experience with affordable, excellent food. They were voted Connecticut Magazine’s Best Neighborhood Restaurant in 2013.

“Caloroso really represents a success story built on the solid foundation of hard work and vision rooted in passion for Italian-American food and the satisfaction that comes from seeing customers happy,” said Rep. Perillo. “They have quickly attained an incredible regional reputation, and that is why we wanted to visit with them to discuss their success and showcase their unique qualities.”
“The story of Caloroso’s success is really a story about someone local having a dream and making it reality,” said Rep. McGorty. “They have created a great, inviting atmosphere in our community and have offered Shelton and surrounding towns a fantastic place to come for food and fun. They were a natural place for us to start our ‘Highlight’ series.”
Caloroso features a dining room for lunch and dinner, and a lounge for bar service, making everything they serve you by hand from recipes handed down from generation to generation. They also offer on and off-site catering service, business deliveries, five big screen televisions in their lounge, twenty different beers on tap, great Happy Hour specials and ample dedicated parking for their patrons. They have a patio area that will open soon as warmer weather approaches. In addition, Shelton’s Planning and Zoning Commission recently approved a downstairs banquet hall that will debut soon.
“Let’s face it, Connecticut does not provide a very inviting business climate, and while Ben and I are always working to improve that, it is really great to see a business run by great people like the Calandros succeeding despite the obstacles,” said Perillo.
“I urge Shelton residents that haven’t done so yet to come down and give them a try,” said McGorty. “I predict it will become a regular hang-out for you.”
