McGorty & Hoydick Welcome Bunnell High Basketball Champs to Capitol

State Representatives Ben McGorty (R-122) & Laura Hoydick (R-120) welcomed the Bulldogs, Stratford’s Bunnell High School Basketball team, to the State Capitol this afternoon, recognizing their Class L State Championship title.
The legislators introduced the student athletes and their coach, Pat Yerina, from the floor of the State House of Representatives, drawing applause from the House membership for their achievements.
“The Bulldogs are the best in the state, and with this incredible season they have made themselves a shining example of the perseverance and dedication of true student athletes,” said Rep. McGorty. “It’s a real pleasure to welcome them to the state capitol to showcase their victory.”
“It is a great honor to have the Bulldogs and coach Yerina visit the State Capitol this afternoon,” said Rep. Hoydick. “These students and their coaching team have worked very hard, and this first statewide title for Stratford shows they put their hearts and souls into the success they have achieved. Stratford is very proud of them all.”

The fifth-seeded Bunnell Bulldogs achieved its first state championship victory when they defeated seventh-seeded Naugatuck 72-61 at the Mohegan Sun Arena on March 22nd.
A full 75% of the team and managers have been recognized for their high academic standing while members of the basketball team.
