$24.5 MILLION IN STATE GRANTS TO 60 SMALL TOWNS FOR INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS

HARTFORD– On Friday, State Representative Rick Hayes (R-51), welcomed the news from Governor Lamont’s office, that the Town of Thompson was awarded a Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grant. Thompson will receive $500,000 in state funding for track and athletic field reconstruction, which will be matched by $1,046,166 in town funding.

“These grants go a long way in helping out our small towns all across Connecticut,” Rep. Hayes said. “These investments will be a significant help to the municipality for funding purposes and will greatly benefit our student athletes here in Thompson. I was pleased to receive the news that this grant was approved, and I look forward to seeing the improvements that are going to be made.”

By law, STEAP grants can only be used for capital projects, such as new construction or expansion, renovation or replacement for an existing facility or facilities. The grants are coordinated by the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management.

The grants are part of a larger $24.5 million package of state grants for 60 small towns which were announced by Governor Ned Lamont. The grants are provided through the Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP), a state program managed by the Office of Policy and Management (OPM) that delivers grants to small towns for economic development, community conservation, and quality-of-life capital projects.
