Reps. Haines and Carpino Visit Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue

EAST HAMPTON – State Representatives Irene Haines (R-34) and Christie Carpino (R-32) recently toured Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue’s Autumn Ridge farm with Executive Director Dr. Stacey Golub, DVM and volunteer staff members.

Draft horses are bred to be working animals used for plowing fields, hauling carts and other farm labor. The mission of Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue (CDHR) is to rescue, rehabilitate and find new homes for Draft Horses that have been abused, neglected or whose owners can no longer provide for their care. CDHR maintains lifelong protection for horses placed with new owners monitoring their health and safety.

“As a former owner of a draft horse, I know firsthand the commitment of taking care of these gentle giants,” said Rep. Haines. “The fact that CDHR has rescued, nursed back to health and placed 90 draft horses with an all-volunteer staff is just short of miraculous. CDHR is so worthy of much admiration and support. I encourage everyone to go for a visit, listen to their stories and see the good work being done.”

“These are beautiful animals. CDHR and their volunteers provide unique services and rescue programs, which are incredibly important to the lives of so many horses. I want to thank them for taking the time to educate us about their mission, letting us meet some of draft horses, and for becoming such a valuable asset to the community,” said Rep. Carpino.

CDHR was incorporated as a non-profit in 2011 by Dr. Stacey Golub initially operating a farm in Haddam Neck. Recently they relocated to East Hampton building a new home, the Autumn Ridge farm.
